Welcome to the Rotary Club of Moraga, where we have been serving the community of Moraga, and the world, since 1967. Moraga Rotary meets at St. Mary's College campus, 1928 St. Mary's Road, in the Soda Center, each Tuesday, at 12:00 pm.
Greetings From The President: It is an honor to serve as the president of the Rotary Club of Moraga for the Rotary year 2011-2012. In the recent past, we have been chosen as the medium sized “club of the year" in our district, which is a tribute to our past accomplishments. However, we look forward to the future and how we can better serve our community and, on a larger scale, reach out to the world community. The 2011-2012 Rotary International President Kalyan Banerjee has chosen as his theme: “Reach Within to Embrace Humanity”, which fundamentally describes the focus of our RI President for this year while staying true to the meaning of Rotary. Both our community and our planet face many challenges. Rotarians around the world are involved in projects to provide clean water, literacy education, reduce poverty and hunger, and meet critical health care needs. After a 26 year effort, Rotarians are on the verge of finally eradicating Polio from the face of the earth. This year, Moraga Rotary will continue to support the youth of Moraga with dictionaries for every 3rd grader, scholarships at Campolindo High School and St. Mary’s College, scholarships to our leadership programs at Camp Royal and Camp Venture, and our annual Field Day Track Meet. We will also provide financial support for the Moraga Educational Foundation and Moraga’s Odyssey of the Mind teams. We are proud to sponsor the St. Mary’s Rotaract and Campolindo Interact clubs who are made up of enthusiastic youth eager to help those in need, and volunteer to better their community. Internationally, we will continue to provide prosthetic hands, wheel chairs, financial support for Polio eradication, and disaster relief around the world. My focus this year is to promote literacy in Moraga and in neighboring communities such as Richmond and at Juvenile Hall in Martinez, through donations such as much needed books in their libraries, and projects promoting reading programs. Moraga Rotary is made up of men and women of different ages, vocations, professions and talents, all of whom work really hard to make a difference in their community and the world. We enjoy Rotary because it is fun! It's fun not only helping others along with the 1.2 million other Rotarians in the world, but the fellowship in Rotary is one of the founding principals and it is very gratifying to collaborate with others who all share the same value of "Service Above Self." If you would like to find out more about membership in Moraga Rotary, please click on the Join Rotary page. We meet at noon every Tuesday at the St. Mary's College Soda Center, where we have fun fellowship and interesting speakers. Come join us for lunch and see what we are all about. Best Rotary regards, Nora Avelar, President of Moraga Rotary, 2011-2012
